Minneapolis and St. Paul
More than 100 years ago, the visionary landscape architect H.W.S. Cleveland created the Minneapolis-St. Paul park system—known today as one of the best urban park systems in the world. The Twin Cities routinely rank among the top ten livable cities in the country. In 2007, Minneapolis was rated America’s Most Literary City (with St. Paul following closely behind at number six) for the number of libraries, bookstores, educational levels, newspaper readership, locally published magazines and Internet resources.
Minneapolis and St. Paul are home to nationally and internationally known cultural venues including the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Guthrie Theater, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. There is also a vibrant local art, theater and music scene. The Twin Cities supports pro teams in all four major sports. The University of Minnesota resides on the Mississippi River and is very close to downtown Minneapolis. The Twin Cities has all the amenities of big city with a small town-feel. The University of Minnesota’s graduate program in landscape architecture takes advantage of the Twin Cities setting and provides a nationally-ranked education within a unique and exciting urban environment.
